Sussex Academic serves the international academic community and promotes
learning and scholarship to a global audience. The editorial and production
staff
are committed to publishing to the highest standards across a wide
range of academic subject disciplines in the Humanities and Social
Sciences. The Press supports authors through strong editorial and
development skills, and is committed to serving the world of scholarship
by promoting our authors’ writing and research endeavours so
that they make the maximum impact on their readership and profession.
Sussex Academic exports over 60 percent of its publishing output,
reaching a world-wide audience.
The Press publishing programme addresses issues
of contemporary relevance and debate in Middle East topics, Theology
& Religion, History, and Literary Criticism. University editorship
and publishing cooperation with universities mostly falls under
the Sussex Libraries of Study, which include Latin American, First
Nations, Spanish History, and Asian studies.
We are committed to the environment in which we live,
and continually look for ways to make a positive impact toward mitigating
the threat of climate change. To this end the papers used in the
books we publish are certified by The Forest Stewardship Council
(FSC), a non-profit international organization established to promote
the responsible management of the world’s forests. Products
carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers
that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social,
economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
We believe that this commitment is in line with the core values
of our authors, suppliers and purchasers of our books.
Sussex Academic will open an editorial office in Thornhill,
a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in Fall 2010. From January
1st 2010 Codasat Canada will be the exclusive Canadian Agent for
Sussex Academic Press. Academic sales will be handled by Meluki
Book Marketing; trade sales by Hargreaves, Fuller, Paton; and distribution
by University of Toronto Distribution.
The Press continues to commission actively. All books submitted
to the Press are refereed by external academic advisers.

“Books
are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and
nations . . . Their authors are a natural and irresistible aristocracy in
every society, and, more than kings and emperors, exert
an influence on mankind.”
Henry David Thoreau, 1817–62
